UK offshore wind farm, 1.2 GW

Genetic algorithm based software was used to rapidly assess various design philosophies to aid the developer's choice of turbine type for the wind farm. The capital cost of the various designs ranged between £130m and £175m, representing potential savings of up to £45m. The associated operational losses for each design were also calculated.

This fee earning project was undertaken by Andrew Jenkins prior to founding Kinewell Energy. The software used during the project was benchmarked against traditional design methods in a publically available paper. The KLOC optimisation engine created by Kinewell Energy can not only better these results but can do so up to 310,000x faster, allowing more designs to be interrogated and greater savings achieved.

Kinewell Energy is the only provider able to offer services based on the revolutionary KLOC software.
